Where should you take your kids on vacation? When traveling with kids, you need to have some family-friendly destinations in mind.
If you want everyone in your family to have a great time, you’ve got to go somewhere that has fun things for everyone to do. Thankfully, many cities offer a variety of great activities that can make it easy for everyone in your family to enjoy a vacation together. Instead of simply dragging the kids along, take them to some places where they’ll have a great time; it will be better for you, too.
Kids Under Three: The World Is Your Oyster
When your children are under three, the only places you can’t go are the adult-only resorts. Otherwise, your children will go along with you and basically become part of your luggage, in a manner of speaking. You’ll still need to do the mom and dad duties but should be able to handle some fun wherever you want to go. As long as you’ve got a stroller or carrying pack for your young kids, they can enjoy the trip with you, although they aren’t likely to remember these vacations.
Australia
Once your child is about four or older, you can enjoy more fun and active locations with them. Australia is a great place to go when traveling with kids, especially at a young age. There are some cool animals and animal exhibits, lots of cool beaches, and the same food you can get from home, which makes it easier if you’ve got a picky eater. Australians speak English, which makes it easy to communicate, and you can use the public transportation system and get around pretty easily.
Spain, Italy, Portugal
When you want to immerse your children in the world experience and allow them to see places they wouldn’t get to see at home, Spain, Italy, and Portugal should be on your list. Many people speak English in these countries, and all three have wonderful outdoor dining locations where you and your children can sit and eat. There are many cool beaches where kids can play and enjoy their time near the sea while spending time in some of the most historic European countries.
Costa Rica and Panama
Central America has some amazing places to visit and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and clear ocean shorelines. When traveling with kids, Costa Rica and Panama are cool places to go. You can visit the Panama Canal and show your kids something historic that they can brag about when they talk to their school friends. Both countries are reachable via direct flights from the United States and have many resorts that are perfect for your stay when you’ve completed your day of exploring the national parks where you could see some monkeys or sloths.
Scandinavia or Canada
As your children get older, taking them on vacations where they can experience the outdoors, hike to waterfalls, or see some amazing sights is much easier than when you have to carry or push them around. Two of the best areas of the world are the Scandinavian countries of Norway and Sweden and the country to our north, Canada. You’ll enjoy some amazing outdoor adventures, incredible views you can’t see anywhere else, and cities that are walkable and historic.
Antarctica
You can visit Antarctica, although it might take some serious preparation to do so. Take your kids once they reach about eight or nine years or older, and let them make some memories they’ll be glad to share for many years. Your kids will love seeing the amazing animals of this southern continent and be amazed by what’s going on. You will need to use a boat many times and might even spend some time kayaking around. It’s cold in Antarctica, but you and your kids can train for it and have some fun.
Japan
If you want to give your kids an amazing cultural experience, Japan is a cool place to go. When traveling with kids, especially when traveling around the world, if you want to give them experiences they wouldn’t have at home, take them to Japan. Everything is different in Japan, and your kids will be amazed by the cultural change, the way things are done, and the food offered. Make sure your children are old enough to enjoy the experience and go with an open mind.
